  5. A number of eukaryotic  and  archaebacterial ribosomal proteins can be grouped
  6. on the  basis  of  sequence similarities [1,2]. One of these families consists
  7. of:

  9.  - Mammalian S19.
  10.  - Ascaris lumbricoides ALEP-1.
  11.  - Yeast S16A (RP55).
  12.  - Aspergillus S16.
  13.  - Halobacterium marismortui HS12.
  14.  
  15. These proteins  have  143  to  148  amino  acids.  As  a signature pattern, we
  16. selected a  well  conserved  stretch  of 13 residues in the C-terminal part of
  17. these proteins.
